The space that houses the war museum was constructed by the German troops in 1942 on Platanias hill, below the church of Agios Dimitrios. In recent years, the underground space has been preserved as a monument in memory of the Cretan Resistance during the Nazi Occupation, exhibiting valuable objects from that time.
